The company is placing its scanning technology inside med spas, longevity clinics, and dermatology practices.
October 22, 2026

SkinBit has closed a $6 million pre-seed financing round from Boost VC, Cleo Capital, Manna Ventures, and Profluent Capital, with participation from angel investors including Lyft co-founder Logan Green, and nine board-certified dermatologists.
The company is working to provide 20-minute, full-body skin-scanning technology to clinics and wellness centers that consumers already visit, and to build a longitudinal data platform that lets patients own their skin-health history over time.
Skin cancer is America’s most common cancer, with 5.4 million diagnoses annually and new melanoma diagnoses up 42% in the last decade. When caught early, survival rates exceed 99%, but systemic barriers often block that detection. The average dermatology appointment wait is 34.5 days, and the United States has 3.7 dermatologists per 100,000 patients, overwhelmingly concentrated in urban areas. A 2018 study found that 88% of rural counties have no dermatologists at all. Thus, more than half of Americans are behind on their screenings. The standard diagnostic process, meanwhile, has barely changed: a quick visual exam with no reliable record of the patient’s skin or changes from the previous year.
“Skin is the largest and most cancer-prone organ, and somehow it’s the one we track the least. There are multiple modalities to image our internal organs, but skin is still left to a doctor’s memory,” SkinBit Co-Founder/CEO Jonathan Benassaya said.
Benassaya previously co-founded Deezer, was chief product officer at Life360, and served as senior director of product management at Meta. His own melanoma was caught almost by accident in 2020, when a dermatologist spotted a lesion beneath his mask while on his way out of the exam room—a spot that had been there for years. “I got lucky,” he said, “but health shouldn’t rely on luck. No one should die of a cancer you can see.”
SkinBit addresses that gap, with a full body scan reviewed by board-certified dermatologists and stored as a patient-owned longitudinal baseline. SkinBit is placing its scanning technology inside medical spas, longevity clinics, and dermatology practices, with three locations set to go live in 2026. Patients who need clinical attention are routed to dermatologists with a rich, data-backed picture already attached, allowing dermatologists to operate more effectively and at greater scale.
In the last five years, every major health category has been transformed by continuous, data-driven monitoring: blood panels by Function Health, cardiovascular health by Apple Watch, sleep by Oura Ring, gut health by Viome. But skin—the body’s largest organ, and its most exposed—has remained the exception. SkinBit is attempting to close that gap and build a compounding data asset in the process: As the scan network grows, the longitudinal dataset improves accuracy and deepens the company’s clinical value.
“The best founders are those who have lived the problem and can’t let it go,” stated Green, a SkinBit board member. “Jonathan’s urgency about this is personal, and it shows in how fast the clinical team came together around him.”
The clinical team includes SkinBit’s Co-Founder/Medical Advisor Dr. Justin Ko, who is also Stanford University’s chief of Medical Dermatology; and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sancy Leachman, a former dermatology chair at OHSU who created the world’s largest public collection of skin images for artificial intelligence (AI) research.
“Dermatology has always been rooted in vigilance, but vigilance is stronger with data behind it. SkinBit gives my patients a longitudinal record I can build on, visit after visit. It’s the kind of tool that makes a thorough exam even more precise,” stated Dr. Stephanie Campbell, a board certified dermatologist at Campbell Dermatology in Oregon.
SkinBit will have three locations live in 2026, 15 by the end of next year, and more than 20 in active pipeline discussions, with more than 5,000 people on the waitlist.
SkinBit combines a proprietary full-body imaging scanner, a network of partner clinics and wellness centers, and a longitudinal data platform—giving every patient a living baseline of their own skin and turning dermatology from a subjective annual exam into a continuous, data-driven practice. SkinBit was founded in 2023 by Benassaya, previously founder of Deezer, CPO at Life360, and senior director of product management at Meta.
